Recently, Agati’s director of design and COO, Joe S. Agati, Jr., had the pleasure of presenting a webinar hosted by Library Journal, a 140+ year-old publication that was inspired by the belief that libraries transform lives at every stage of life. The following are some key takeaways from the webinar. You can view the full recording here.
In over four decades of designing furniture for public spaces, our team at Agati has observed the way that human beings navigate and engage with shared environments. In fact, the limbic system in our brains controls both idiosyncratic and repetitive behaviors that we display when we’re in public spaces. So, to get the most from shared public spaces, it’s essential that we design environments with a sensitivity to human needs and behavior. When we do so, we maximize the use of these spaces while also making people feel good when they’re in them.
Here are some important concepts to consider when it comes to human behavior in high-volume public spaces, like libraries, and the role that furniture design can play in helping people feel comfortable and at ease.
